Understand who is providing financial guidance, how they are regulated, how they are compensated and what exactly they are authorised to do.

Start with identity and credentials

Ask for the exact legal name and applicable registration or distributor credentials. Verify them through the relevant official regulator or industry body.

Understand the business model

A distributor and a registered investment adviser operate under different frameworks. Ask how the person or firm is compensated and which services are included.

Look for process, not predictions

A credible financial conversation should discuss goals, liquidity, time horizon and risk—not only “best returns” or urgency.

Demand clear documentation

Keep applications, statements and policy documents. Never share OTPs, passwords or blank signed forms.
